VILLA MARIA WRAP UP

11 Oct 2014 by Ken Fetterolf

This was not our day in so many ways but at the end we gained some personal growth and understanding. A few things were against us going into today’s game. Villa Maria was undefeated going into October 7th and lost to their most hated opponent, Gwynedd Mercy. Villa Maria was celebrating their senior day on their last home game of the season. We were coming in to today’s game having just played three consecutive games with no practice. The odds were completely against us so I will keep this one real short. We held them to 2 in the first half. In the second half, we physically broke down. When our mids and forwards break down, our defense has to work three times as hard. When they work that hard, our goalie gets destroyed. When all of these things happen, the team suffers as a whole. Enough said, we all know what happened today and one of the most valuable things you need to have in sports is a very short memory. Forget this game. It happened. We know we are better than what we showed today. Villa Maria had everything in their favor today but little do they know that next year, we will remember how we were treated by them. We will move forward, get in some practice time, regroup and be prepared for our final two games of the season.

I will leave this with one inspirational quote that you really need to take to heart and embrace. It comes from arguably the greatest sports coach who has ever lived. Read it. Read it again. Repeat it to yourself over and over again. Believe it. Live it. Not just in sport but in everyday life. It may be the most important piece of advice you can ever get.

It's not whether you get knocked down; it's whether you get up. Vince Lombardi, NFL HOF coach
