This is a game that was so big for us for so many reasons. First and foremost it was our Play for the Cure game, second, a win would guarantee a .500 season, and third we needed to win this to keep ourselves in the playoff hunt. Before the game, I asked Kerri if she was ready to play, her response was, “We’re getting a shutout”. You were all so fired up for this game and it was great to see the enthusiasm from all of you. St. Basils came ready to play today. They played like they had no intentions of losing twice to Villa Joe twice in one season. The play was back and forth and equal attempts were taken on both goaltenders. Unfortunately for them, we had Eiben and we also had more desire to play well in front of our biggest crowd of the year. Molly would score on a corner taking a pass from Nikki and from that point on, we would dominate the game. We took a 1-0 lead going into the half but that would be the only glimmer of hope that Basils would have today. Less than 3 minutes into the second half, Hauser would feed Maddy a pass that would find it’s way past the keeper to give us a 2-0 lead. From this point, Basils found that there was no way around our defense as Dani, Vicky, Kiera, and Hannah would refute all attempts at our goalie. Molly, Devon, and Gibbs were always right there to take the clearing passes up the field to our waiting forward line who would basically pepper the Basils defense with shots. Although their goalie played well, Colleen would find the back of the cage on an assist from Maddy. It is really nice to see the progression of Colleen’s play this season and she will be one of our offensive weapons next season. Hauser has continued her assault offensively this year by playing her heart out in her final year. Nikki, Maddy, and Kayla are such big pieces up front that it is hard to defend this triple threat. You should all be proud of what you have done this year, how you have become such a great team to watch. Even though this was a big win for us, your steady growth is the biggest story of this season. Congrats on a great team win today.
Some teams dream of winning, others wake up and do it.
