Today Villa Maria entered the game with a perfect record of 8-0. They have a new coach with international playing and coaching experience. Villa Maria is on a mission to reclaim the AACA title. Today you played Villa Maria like you had your own mission. You looked determined not to be outplayed, out hustled, out worked. Although the final scoreboard did not show a victory for VJM, your play on the field told a different story. We were without the services of Gibbs, Vicky, Sarafina, and for most of the game, Grace. We played a new system of 3-3-4. Your goalie was not feeling well. And you did not use any of those as excuses. You played hard for 60 minutes. Kerri saved 17 shots on goal today. They got some lucky goals, they got some “unattended” goals and they got two goals off corners, but in the end, I believe, I know that you can beat them. Take away the two unmarked goals and two corner goals and it’s a different game. I know that you can play with the best this league has to offer. Everyone stepped up today and hustled and not one of you was outplayed by them. We can’t take every loss as a defeat. We need to use them as a learning tool to help us prepare for the next game. As a coach, I can’t really explain how happy I am for all of you and the tremendous growth I have seen from this team. I do hate to lose more than I like to win but I am content with today’s game because of how you played it. You gave them absolutely nothing, you made them work for everything. TODAY, you proved that you are capable of taking down one of the FAB-4 teams of our league. We have one more shot at each one of them this season. Let’s shake things up, let’s work hard, let’s pull together, let’s show them that this is the new VJM.
