A different approach was used in today’s game. We started the JV including 6 freshman and one varsity player who played her heart out. That person was Colleen Lucatorto. Colleen led the team on several scoring chances and basically weaved herself through the defenders to create chances and corners and although you did not get her goal today, she was one person wrecking crew. Meanwhile, the varsity were acting as coaches on the sidelines directing their respective positions to get a coaches eye view of what happens on the field. What you saw were collapsed field players, little marking, and infrequent stepping up to the ball. This is exactly what the varsity did during the last game against Merion. We gradually added some varsity players beginning with Hauser filling in for Grace. Not only did Hauser step up and play some great field hockey, she played her best game up to date notching two goals as soon as Maddy stepped on the field and crossed some perfect passes to the left side of the field. Due to injuries to Dani and Vicky, our defense had a new look with Jazzy anchoring Abby Karch and Abby Mazzitelli. Dani and Vicky would enter the game boasting a quick goal to start the second half. Nikki would score just 26 seconds into the second half aided by a lead pass from Kayla Everett. Not to be outdone by her inside counterpart, Kayla would take a cross from Nikki off a corner to tally our fourth goal. Due to an “upper body injury” in professional sports terms, Kayla would be given the rest of the day off. Nikki would add one more goal with an assist from Gibbs. We used the entire team in this game and what I saw was a team that made adjustments from a big loss and shows that it does know how to play the game well and let’s hope that we can use this unusual game day experience to move forward and keep this successful season rolling along. Nice job everybody.
